Doug sends location maps

Inuvik, as you guys have learned by now, is near the northern coast of Canada’s Northwest Territory.

Here is a closer look at the area we will be working. We will fly into Edmonton tonight. Tomorrow we will fly to Inuvik with, a brief stop-over in Yellowknife, where we will be joined by our sound recordist Terry. Terry lives in Yellowknife and one of his favorite things to do is to take his dogteam running. When I spoke with him last week he had just returned from a camping trip with his dogs. He says the perfect day for him is -20f and sunny! If it’s much colder things begin to break and he has to worry about his dogs getting colder. If it’s much warmer the dogs can overheat as they pull the sled.

Hopefully I’ll get Terry to post a few times during the trip. I think we could all learn quite a bit from him on this trip because he’s lived in the Northwest Territories for a long time!

Travel Well, Arctic Doug!

Thank you so much for coming and bringing Charlie. Charlie and you are too cool for school. Please come back anytime. Will you be coming back after the trip (please) and remember to bring Charlie? We learned a lot about your supplies and especially the big, fat Bunny Boots! Cool, again! Matthew said that he wants you to wear "those warmers".

The 109'ers + Charlie hope you get there safely tomorrow. At recess, we'll watch the planes to see if any of them say "Arctic" and we will think of you.

Please remember our questions and try to get some answers when you can. We would love to find out if you were able to do that experiment where you throw the hot water in the air and watch it turn to ice.

Travel Well,
The 109'ers
PSSST: Watch out for biting frost, sneaky weather, and wild animals.
Maybe you can bring us back something from your trip. Suprise us.

Right now we are studying and researching what is in the Arctic Region. We are learning abouh the region so when you come here we can have some questions for you. We have found out that the Arctic is a region of the North Pole. Some of us are looking into the Jumbo Perch. We will have questions for you tomorrow.
See you Friday...

Getting ready for school here down South is different then getting ready for school way up North. The following is a generalized weather report for the 109'ers area and another predicting the weather at Yellowknife's, NT. Wow... what a difference.

109'ers forecast calls for a high of 30 and some light snow flurries.

Yellowknife's forecast calls for a high of 6 degrees with a 40% chance of flurries. Brrr....

Arctic Doug's First Post to us 1-10-08

Greetings to the 109'ers! Ready for a wild ride? We'll be embarking on our frozen journey to the top of the world on January 29. This gives us just under three weeks to make final preparations before heading up into the great frozen north!

As the director of photography, my main concern at this point is figuring out what equipment to bring and how the heck to keep it (and us) from freezing!
